You’re right on time to see Toronto through a whole new lens. The theme? Identity. The occasion? Over 1,500 Canadian and global artists and shutterbugs converging on the city to mix, mingle, and talk all things photography. Otherwise known as The Scotiabank CONTACT Photography Festival. Make a day of scouting 30-plus public exhibitions throughout town, or R.S.V.P. to something decidedly swankier at one of the 75 art galleries and venues hosting talks and cocktails to celebrate the non-profit showcase. We dare you to look away from sights and scenes vary from local artist Annie MacDonnell’s retro-vibed, self-directed residency at the Toronto Reference Library to Sioux nation descendant Dana Claxton’s ultraviolet water buffalo (spot it at three places along Dundas Street). Blink—or hit the city anytime after June 1, when the festival ends—and you’ll be sorry that you missed it.
