Welcome to our “Customs With Katy!” blog feature, where we focus on customs-related topics, brought to you by none other than Phillips’ very own Move Coordinator, Katy Duncan! With the legalized recreational usage of cannabis just on the horizon, we offer some important caveats for you to consider as you move cross-border:

While Canada’s position towards marijuana continues to change, be mindful that the USA’s policies remain unchanged. This could affect both you and the shipment of your household goods from Canada to the US more than you would like. You may think that an item of marijuana-related paraphernalia is harmless, however, US customs most likely will not share that same opinion.

Purchasing habits. There is talk that even purchasing habits on your credit cards may become barriers to you and your effects entering the USA.

For more information on the topic, please read and refer to this article as seen in Global News.

We trust that these few caveats will encourage you to be mindful when moving (both ways) across the Canada US border – you do not want to be at risk when travelling or moving! For additional customs tips, we recommend that you routinely check our bi-weekly news updates.

As always, until next time, stay safe and stay customs compliant!
