Welcome to our “Customs With Katy!” blog feature, where we focus on customs-related topics, brought to you by none other than Phillips’ very own Move Coordinator, Katy Duncan! Please keep in mind that there have been recent increases in the information declaration demands by US customs on Canadians, and they are as follows:

US customs continues to demand that increased amounts of information be declared by the “shipper” when moving across the border, especially when a citizen happens to be Canadian. Accordingly, you may be asked to complete a “Supplemental Declaration for Unaccompanied Personal and Household Effects”. Note that US customs is not currently making the form mandatory, but is requesting it on an intermittent and case-by-case basis, so be prepared to potentially complete one if requested by your moving company.

To review: Ensure that you look over this sample form (so that you will be well prepared in case your moving company asks for one from you). For additional customs tips, we recommend that you routinely check our bi-weekly news updates.

As always, until next time, stay safe and stay customs compliant!
