In 2012, after years of working for other fashion houses, Kimberley Newport-Mimran decided it was time to take on a new project of her own. “I wanted to exercise my creativity and try my hand at designing,” says the founder and CEO of Pink Tartan, the Canadian label known for its streamlined silhouettes and flashes of bold personality.
Named one of the top 10 Canadian “designers to watch” in 2014 by Vogue Magazine, she is certainly making her mark. The gorgeous Pink Tartan concept store in Yorkville is a testament to her impeccable taste. Here she reveals a quick fashion tip and her three favorite things to do in Toronto:
Q. What the easiest way to create a chic winter look?
A. A great coat and a fur collar (faux or real).
Q. How would you describe Toronto style?
A. Urban.
Q. What’s the strangest place you’ve found inspiration for a collection?
A. A mixed up appointment in Hong Kong that I was taken to by mistake—where I found an amazing technical yarn that I love to design into. I ended up reinventing it a little, but it found its way into my collection.
Q. Your three must-do things to do in Toronto?
A. Spend time at our great gallery AGO – the Art Gallery of Ontario.
Visit Pink Tartan at 77 Yorkville Ave.
See our city from the top of CN Tower.
Q. Describe your perfect day?
A. I try and make every day perfect, live in the now and enjoy every day!
